Midwestern School Still Offers Insurance Classes in Person
Iowa and Nebraska are examples of states where residents don't yet have to stay home.
A firm in Omaha is offering an increasingly rare luxury: insurance exam prep and continuing education classes taught… in person.
The Insurance Classroom Education Co. has had to give up offering classes at some community colleges, due to COVID-19-related school shutdowns, but it’s still able to offer other in-person classes in meeting rooms, some schools, and its own offices.

The company is preparing to shift to offering its fall classes online, through a videoconferencing system.
Governors of California, Illinois, New York and some other states have imposed “shelter in place” orders or other orders encouraging most people to stay at home.
Des Moines, Iowa, has a voluntary shelter-in-place order, but Iowa has no statewide restrictions, and Nebraska has no restrictions.
The Insurance Classroom Education Co. offers classes, for producers in Iowa and Nebraska, on topics such as life settlements, reverse mortgage basics, Social Security, benefit plan administration, and long-term care planning.
Lawrence Battaglia, the owner, sent Iowa producers an email Tuesday informing them that the Iowa Insurance Division has suspended in-person continuing education requirements through August.
“This means you can complete all of your requirements by self-study or on-line,” Battaglia says in the email. “Nevertheless; we plan to have in-class classes as printed in our schedule as long as we can…. If you prefer an in-class environment, please consider coming to one of our classes.”
