The National Council of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) has named Assemblywoman Maggie Carlton to chair the NCOIL Life Insurance and Financial Planning Committee for 2020.

Carlton is a Democrat from Nevada. She serves as chair of the Assembly Ways and Means Committee in the Nevada Assembly.

The NCOIL life committee has been talking about issues such as underwriting trends in life insurance and use of genetic testing information in life underwriting.

The committee vice chair is Assemblymember Andrew Gabarino of New York state.

Gabarino is a Republican. He is the highest-ranking Republican on New York’s Assembly Insurance Committee.

NCOIL is a group for state lawmakers with an interest in insurance. It often works with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners on policy efforts, but it sometimes disagrees with the NAIC about how much state insurance regulators can do on their own, without getting legislative approval.
