AALU has come up with a way to increase its member count quickly: Let a member firm add every agent or support staffer to AALU’s overall member count.

The Washington-based life insurance advocacy group says the creation of a new enterprise membership category has helped it double its member count, to 4,000,.

In the past, AALU took a narrower approach to counting members.

Marc Cadin, who took over as AALU’s chief executive officer in September, said in a statement that he believes the new approach will help AALU do a better job of promoting the financial security of American families and businesses.

“When we grow the number of engaged financial security professionals across the life insurance distribution community, we will create a stronger organization that can produce better public policy outcomes,” Cadin said in the statement.

Cadin said AALU also wants to reach out to career agents, professionals in the independent brokerage channel, and other producer groups to strengthen the AALU advocacy force.

The list of AALU goals includes attracting people into the life insurance business and increasing diversity as well as enhancing the reputation of the life insurance profession and producing better public policy outcomes, the group says.
