Erie Insurance Affiliate Enters Medigap Market

The company is offering the product only through agents.

A unit of Erie Insurance Group is now selling Medicare supplement insurance, or Medigap insurance.

The Erie, Pennsylvania-based company’s Erie Family Life Insurance subsidiary is offering Medigap policies in Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The policies are available to disabled people under 65 who qualify for Medicare as well as to Medicare enrollees ages 65 and older.

The life unit has been selling life and annuity products since 1967.

Purchasers who have other types of Erie coverage, such as Erie auto insurance, may get a multi-policy discount when they buy an Erie Medigap policy.

Erie is selling the policy through agents. Consumers have to arrange to speak to a local agent to get product details.
