Managers of HealthCare.gov say the public exchange enrollment website received health plan selection information for 1 million people during the first 12 days of the individual major medical open enrollment period for 2017.
Plan selection volume is about 5.6 percent than it was for the first 12 days of the 2016 open enrollment period, according to the first official HealthCare.gov enrollment snapshot for 2017.

The 2017 open enrollment period, or season when people can buy individual major medical coverage without showing they have what the government classifies as a good reason for shopping for coverage, started Nov. 1 and is set to end Jan. 31.
From Nov. 1 through Nov. 12, HealthCare.gov processed plan selections for 246,433 people who were new to HealthCare.gov. The site also processed plan selection applications for 761,785 consumers who bought their 2016 health coverage through HealthCare.gov.
Another 1.1 million consumers have submitted applications to HealthCare.gov but have not yet selected health plans.
Consumers put Affordable Care Act exchange plan coverage into effect when they make the first premium payment. The first enrollment snapshot does not include any information on coverage effectuation.
