Michael Freedman is Senior Vice President, Government Affairs for Coventry, the creator and leader of the secondary market for life insurance. Since 2002, Mr. Freedman has led Coventry’s government relations efforts, overseeing Coventry’s legislative and regulatory strategy and representation in Washington, DC and all 50 states. He has been a leader in the development of life settlement laws in 40 states and over 60 different pieces of legislation.

Mr. Freedman’s proactive efforts on behalf of the secondary market for life insurance have led to the adoption of state laws throughout the US that regulate life settlements and focus on protecting the property rights of policy owners. Mr. Freedman frequently appears before public officials to advocate on behalf of the secondary market including testifying before the United States Senate Aging Committee in April 2009.

Mr. Freedman has a long career of public service and advocacy. After working in New York’s executive and legislative branches of government, he worked in private practice at a major national law firm concentrating on federal, state and local government affairs. He was also a senior executive for a major international telecommunications company overseeing public affairs and public policy. Mr. Freedman received his Juris Doctor from the University at Buffalo Law School.
