Historian Daniel Pipes posits that it is in America’s national interest to side with the struggling dictator in the protracted Syrian civil war. Although he draws on a vast array of historic examples of America employing the tactic of supporting any losing side in order to occupy the other’s energy, the article comes off as skewed and misdirected. Pipes’ advice seems so contrived it is hard to believe even he thinks it is the right thing to do.
