A new book from a team of Harvard researchers points out that the U.S.’s economic woes aren’t just about the recession or the sequestration: it’s about America’s lack of ability to compete internationally. Job creation stalled around 2000, with all new jobs being created at the local level, which is not exposed to international competition. So what is the problem, then? To a large degree, it is management – how companies are handled in the art and science of getting things done. Most American business could be managed much better, but most American managers think they are doing a fine job. Meanwhile, this disconnect is killing us softly.
