Board of Delta Dental of California names chairman

Becky PatelThe Board of Delta Dental California named Becky Patel, CEO of LISI, Inc., as chairman for the 2012-13 year.

Patel has served on the Board of Directors for Delta Dental of California since 2007 and CEO of LISI since 2010. 

As CEO, Patel has guided the development of new solutions for brokers, ranging from products and services, special events, and educational opportunities, to customized sales support.  Patel has been with LISI for nearly three decades.

The companies of OneAmerica have selected Duane Jeffers to be regional sales director for retirement business in Michigan and Northwest Ohio. Working from OneAmerica’s regional office in Detroit, Jeffers will lead sales, marketing and service functions for the retirement services division of American United Life Insurance Company, a OneAmerica company.

Jeffers spent the past six years in managing director and sales vice president roles at Prudential Retirement. He has also held various management positions with Great West Retirement Services and Nationwide Retirement Solutions.

Jeffers has Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees from Franklin University in Ohio.

Finance & Commerce named Vicki Bailey, head of investment law and securities compliance at Advantus Capital Management, to its annual list of Top Women in Finance in the Twin Cities. She is the fourth Advantus executive to be named to the list.

Bailey joined Advantus in 1985. The legal department is responsible for legal due diligence for every nonpublic Advantus transaction. “When someone in her job does it well, there are no negative headlines and lawsuits,” said Advantus Executive Vice President Dave Kuplic, and Bailey’s manager. “We have a great compliance record.” Bailey received her bachelor’s degree from St. Olaf College, her JD, magna cum laude, from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, MN and earned an MBA from the University of St. Thomas. She holds the Certified Investment Advisor and Compliance Specialist designations.

Scott A. Edelstein, a partner at Squire Sanders, a global legal firm, received the 2012 Justitia Award given by the Medical Tourism Association (MTA).

Edelstein is the first recipient of the award, which is one of seven other leadership awards the association grants annually to those whose achievements have enhanced and brought innovation to the medical tourism and international healthcare industry.

Edelstein is co-chair of Squire Sanders’ Life Sciences Industry Group and a member of the global legal practice’s Healthcare Reform Task Force.  He focuses his practice on advising healthcare providers on legal and regulatory issues as well as assisting hospitals and physician groups in the formation of integrated delivery systems, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and medical tourism. 

Since 2007, Edelstein has served on the Legal Council committee of the MTA as well as the boards of several other international trade associations.

Evolution1 introduced 1Plan, a defined contribution solution that allows employers to use a single solution while enabling employees to decide which benefits are best for them.

Evolution1 introduced 1View, the new brand for its consumer control panel. 1View features several enhancements, including changes to the expense tracker and consumer-initiated payment functionalities as well as increased consumer engagement functionality.

Also introduced was 1Mobile, the new brand for Lighthouse1 Mobile. Enhancements to 1Mobile include allowing consumers to file new FSA/HRA claims and submit associated receipt images as well as view HSA transactions, all via their mobile device.

BeneTrac and Assurant Employee Benefits formed a partnership to streamline online enrollment and benefits administration.                

BeneTrac’s benefits management platform offers real-time access to information, online enrollment tools, presentation of consolidated bills, payroll/carrier integration and automated eligibility tracking. When offering new lines of coverage through Assurant Employee Benefits, such as disability, dental, voluntary insurance and other products, with BeneTrac, brokers and employers can access efficiencies using BeneTrac’s platform, resulting from the partnership.
