New York Life Foundation Gives $300,000 Over 3 Years to 300 youth

The New York Life Foundation has declared a three-year $300,000 grant to Inwood House. The grant is to be utilized through educational services that will help approximately 300 pregnant and parenting youth in New York City.

The Inwood House was established in 1830 and has been at the forefront of assisting disenfranchised teens become productive adults through myriad programs.

One of the first agencies to acknowledge and attempt to remedy intergenerational poverty in New York City, Inwood House has focused on child abuse and the neglect that is “empirically linked to teenage pregnancy.”

The Inwood House serves 3,500 teens in 17 programs across New York City and Atlantic County, NJ. Their school-based program is pregnancy prevention-based and designed for middle and high school students who come from areas with high incidents of drug abuse and teenage pregnancy.

“We are pleased to help Inwood House provide young women with access to educational services, which are essential to finding employment and becoming self-reliant. This grant aligns with the Foundation’s educational enhancement focus and provides one of the most vulnerable populations, pregnant youth and new mothers, with support to help prepare them to be self-sufficient adults,”said Marlyn Torres, assistant vice president of the New York Life Foundation.
