Neither presidential candidate is offering up a proposal on what to do about the economy. Instead, each is telling the public that whatever the other guy does about it will be worse than his own solution. The race is running so close that neither side wants to do anything that will give the other something to shoot at. This trench warfare will only get nastier as negative advertising starts to increase. The fallout from such tactics will be two immediate handicaps for the victor in November. The first is that he will have no game plan because Americans were not given an opportunity to weigh or endorse any ideas or plans to turn the economy around. The second is that the public really doesn’t like him much more than the other guy.
