The number of Americans owning either a tablet or e-book increased from 18% to 29% over the winter holiday season, according to the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project. About 20% of Americans said they own a tablet computer in early 2012—twice as many as they said they did near the end of 2011. Data show e-book ownership also went from 10% in December 2011 to 19% in January 2012. The biggest increases in ownership were notable among those with higher levels of education and those in households earning $75,000 or more. The number of consumers aged 50-64 who owned a tablet jumped from 8% to 15% during the same period.
