In its 2012 Midyear Economic and Market Outlook, Wells Fargo Advisors outlined four areas of investment opportunities: U.S. economy, U.S. equities, fixed income, and international investments, commodities and currencies. Though there are downside risks, the report concludes that there are positive forces supporting the U.S. economy and domestic stock markets. Uncertainty in the U.S. economy is overshadowing its improvement, and its recovery is subpar, but the economy is not headed for another recession, analysts say. The U.S. equities market has the potential to move up; investors should focus on cyclical stocks. The perceived safe-haven of fixed income investments have driven yields on high-quality sovereign debt down to historic lows. On the international front, signs show the global slowdown may be coming to an end.
