Is there a bias against men in the economy? Women earn 77 cents for every dollar men make, but more than 90% of workplace deaths, military deaths and severe workplace injuries occur to men. Dangerous work naturally comes with higher pay. Men are more likely to be willing to move to an undesirable location for a promotion, and, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, to work longer hours. Last year, President Obama created the Council on Women and Girls but rejected the one on men and boys. “(I) look forward to continuing the important work we are doing to promote the interests of women,” Obama said at the White House Forum on Women and the Economy April 6.
