The Hartford releases new small-business DI product

The Hartford Financial Services Group has a new disability insurance (DI) product designed to help small-business owners.

The new offering is a voluntary, employee-funded benefit, so it doesn’t increase employer costs. It’s also available to businesses on a stand-alone basis, meaning it doesn’t need to be purchased in conjunction with the Hartford’s long-term DI.

“Our national survey shows employees at small businesses are not as satisfied with their benefits as workers at mid-size and large companies,” says Ron Gendreau, executive vice president of Group Benefits at The Hartford. “Many employers are turning to voluntary benefits to help compete with their larger counterparts in attracting and retaining talented employees.”

Available to employers with 50 to 999 employees, the new DI product is aimed at business owners who want to provide an additional benefit without increasing costs as well as those who are paying for the benefit but need to shift the cost to employees.
