Personnel Changes: Genworth, Unum, New York Life, Fidelity, Others

Genworth Financial Inc., Richmond, Va., has promoted current senior vice president and chief financial officer Patrick B. Kelleher to be president and chief executive officer (CEO) of retirement and protection and executive vice president of the company.

He will succeed Pamela S. Schultz, who announced she will be retiring in February 2011.

Kelleher joined Genworth in 2007. He has a bachelor’s degree from Franklin and Marshall College.

Genworth also announced it hired Kevin Walker to be senior vice president and chief financial officer of retirement protection, effective in December.

Walker previously was senior vice president of group planning and controlling at Allianz SE, Munich, Germany and senior vice president and senior financial officer of product lines for Allianz Life Insurance Company of America, Minneapolis.

Walker has a bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University.

In other personnel developments:

Unum Group, Chattanooga, Tenn., has promoted Al Riggieri to be senior vice president and chief actuary.

Riggieri previously was vice president and chief actuary for the company. He has a bachelor’s degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

New York Life Insurance Company, New York, has hired Benjamin Woloshin to replace Allyson McDonald as senior vice president and head of relationship management for New York Life’s Retirement Income Security (RIS) unit.

McDonald has assumed responsibility for the external sales operation of RIS.

Woloshin previously was vice president at Goldman Sachs Group Inc., New York, where he was responsible for institutional relationships in its reinsurance group.

Fidelity Capital Markets, the institutional trading arm of Fidelity Investments Inc., Boston, has hired Kevin J. Byrne to lead its transition management group.

Byrne previously was head of U.S. transition management group at ConvergEX Group, New York.

Fidelity’s transition management group helps institutional clients such as pension funds, insurance companies and 401(k) plans handle asset restructuring.

The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc., Hartford, has promoted Don MacQuattie to be vice president and director of retirement plans for healthcare, education and tax-exempt organizations.

MacQuattie previously was the company’s vice president and director of strategic relationships for the Hartford’s Retirement Plan Group. He also worked as a staff assistant to U.S. Sen. James Jeffords of Vermont in Washington.

MacQuattie has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Vermont and a MBA from the college of William & Mary.

UNIFI Companies, Lincoln, Neb., has hired Tim Stonehocker to be executive vice president of individual and Ameritas Investment Corp. for UNIFI.

Stonehocker previously was president and CEO at the Life and Protection Group of AEGON Inc., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a unit of AEGON N.V., The Hague, Netherlands (NYSE:AEG).

Stonehocker has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Drake University.

UNIFI also has hired Jim Shultz to be senior vice president of retirement plans for Ameritas Life Insurance Corp. and the Union Central Life Insurance Company.

Shultz previously was president at Midlands Financial Benefits, Lincoln, Neb.

WellCare Health Plans Inc., Tampa, Fla., has named Jesse Thomas president of the South Division effective Oct. 18.

Thomas will be responsible for WellCare’s businesses in Georgia, Texas, and Louisiana.

He previously was president at Molina Healthcare of Michigan and Ohio. He also served as board president for the Illinois Association of Medicaid Health Plans in Chicago.

WellCare also hired Lawrence D. Anderson to be senior vice president and chief human resources officer. Anderson previously was senior vice president of human resources at ValueOptions, Norfolk, Va.
