Orion Advisor Services, a portfolio accounting service provider for registered investment advisors, announced a new release for its Advisor Desktop Monday. The upgrade includes new navigation, enhanced functionality, including a “wall” feature similar to those on social networking sites and single sign-on functionality to improve ease of use.

“Orion uses the strength of proprietary technology, and our experience serving advisors, to develop customized solutions that fit the unique ways that different advisors do business,” said Eric Clarke, President of Orion Advisor Services, LLC, in a prepared statement. “We are very excited to provide new enhancements to Advisor Desktop, a reflection of our ongoing mission to help RIAs grow their businesses with the most comprehensive back-office solution.”

Advisor Desktop provides advisors with performance reporting, FIX (Financial Information eXchange) and rebalance trading tools, as well as the ability to edit client data all in one system. The desktop application is made available via Orion’s data center through a secure Internet connection.

As part of the upgrade, Orion developed the new “Orion’s Wall” feature to help advisors keep up-to-date on the “front page” activities of their business. Similar to the wall feature of popular social networking sites, Orion’s Wall page allows users to see their daily business metrics, posted by Orion as soon as the information becomes available. Such metrics may include the number of new accounts created and transactions applied to the system for a day, and portfolio models that were rebalanced. Advisors can click on any posting to access more detailed information and can also add comments to their wall and engage in a wall dialogue with the Orion service team.

The upgrade also provides advisors with a single sign-on function designed to create a more user-friendly experience and to help advisors access the data they need in fewer clicks. With this function, advisors will be able to store to Advisor Desktop their user names and passwords for multiple custodial firms’ websites that they visit on a daily basis in order to place trades.

Other new screen and navigation features include the following:

  • top and side menu functionality;
  • “recently visited pages” section that allows for quick “return to” functionality;
  • function-specific intuitive data summary grids; and
  • customizable landing page when entering Advisor Desktop.

“At a time when efficiency is more important than ever, Orion continues to build integrated solutions that empower RIAs with the technology and support they need to run more efficient businesses and focus on serving clients and managing portfolios,” Clarke said. “We look forward to making more enhancements to our tools that help advisors save time and costs.”
