Personnel Changes: Penn Mutual, Aviva USA, Others

Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company has named Eileen McDonnell president.

McDonnell, who now will lead day-to-day operations at Penn Mutual, Horsham, Pa., also has been elected to the company’s board. She previously was executive vice president of Penn Mutual.

McDonnell also has been president of the New England Financial unit of MetLife Inc., New York (NYSE:MET), and a senior vice president at Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, New York.

McDonnell has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science from Molloy College and a master’s degree in finance and investments from Adelphia University.

McDonnell is a member of the board of LL Global Inc., Windsor, Conn., the parent of LIMRA International, Windsor, Conn., and LOMA, Atlanta. She also has served on the board of the Insurance Marketplace Standards Association, Bethesda, Md.

Penn Mutual also has promoted David O’Malley to executive vice president and chief financial officer, from executive vice president with oversight over product management, technology, producer and client services. O’Malley now will be responsible for financial operations. O’Malley has a bachelor’s degree in finance and economics from Drexel University in Philadelphia.

In other personnel news:

- Aviva USA, Des Moines, Iowa, a unit of Aviva P.L.C., London, has promoted John Currier Jr. to chief actuary, from chief product officer and senior vice president, annuity product development, and Rhonda Elming to senior vice president, product management, from senior vice president, life product management.

Currier is chairman of the product development section council at the Society of Actuaries, Schaumburg, Ill. He also is a member of the actuarial science board of visitors at Butler University.

Elming, who is taking over Currier’s product management responsibilities, has a bachelor’s degree in actuarial science from the University of Iowa. She frequently gives presentations on indexed products at SOA meetings.

- Prime Advisors Inc., Redmond, Wash., a firm that manages bond portfolios for insurers, has promoted Donald McDonald to president, from executive vice president.

McDonald also has been chief investment officer of Jefferson Pilot Financial, Greensboro, N.C., and he has been president of Conning Asset Management Company, a unit of Conning & Company, Hartford. He has a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University.

- Aon Consulting, a unit of Aon Corp., Chicago (NYSE:AON), has hired Viq Pervaaz to be senior vice president of corporate transactions. Pervaaz, who will handle cross-border pharmaceutical and health care transactions, will be based in New York.

Pervaaz previously was vice president of global project management with MDS Pharma Services, King of Prussia, Pa., a unit of MDS Inc., Toronto. He has a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Rutgers University and is a registered pharmacist.
