Reinsurance Group of America Inc. now believes that it can borrow more money from public investors than it had originally expected.

RGA, Chesterfield, Mo., has increased the size of an offering of senior unsecured notes to $400 million. Originally, the life reinsurer had suggested that it might offer $300 million in notes.

The notes are due in 2019 and come with an issue price of 99.83%. The coupon rate is a fixed rate of 6.45%, payable semiannually.

RGA intends to complete the offering Friday.
