An insurer has added options to the investment lineup available with its variable annuity and variable life products.

Nationwide Financial Services Inc., Columbus, Ohio, a unit of Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company, Columbus, is increasing the total number of passively managed Nationwide Variable Insurance Trust Investor Destination funds to 7, from 5.

The 2 new funds are a balanced fund and a capital appreciation fund.

Nationwide also is adding 5 options from outside companies, including a small-cap growth fund, an unhedged pure foreign bond fund, an international asset allocation fund, a tactical asset allocation fund, and a low-duration bond fund overseen by bond guru Bill Gross.

Other additions include 5 NVIT-subadvised investment options, with 3 of those 5 having a global or international slant.

Nationwide’s variable life and VA products now offer a total of 83 underlying investment options, 9 asset-allocation solutions, and access to 31 money managers, Nationwide says.
