Many chief financial officers are pessimistic about the future of their retiree health benefits programs.

Researchers at Grant Thornton L.L.P., Chicago, have released figures concerning that pessimism in a summary of results from a recent survey of 686 CFOs and senior comptrollers.

Only 15% of the participants said their companies still provide retiree health benefits, and 41% of the participants at companies that still provide retiree health benefits told Grant Thornton the companies expect to reduce those benefits in the next 12 months.
