American International Group Inc. will be paying an undisclosed fee for rights to some of the technology that it uses to answer the telephones.

AIG, New York, is paying the licensing fee to a unit of Ronald A. Katz Technology Licensing L.P., Los Angeles, Katz says.

AIG will be getting a nonexclusive license to use technology covered by a portfolio of Katz patents relating to financial services call processing.

The patents apply to customer service delivered through live agents as well as through automated systems, Katz says.
