Personnel Changes: MassMutual, AXA, Others

Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company has promoted Hugh O’Toole to senior vice president in charge of national sales and distribution for the company’s retirement services division.

O’Toole previously was the interim head of distribution, according to MassMutual, Springfield, Mass.

In other personnel news:

- AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company, New York, a unit of AXA S.A., Paris, has named Joanne Pietrini-Smith chief operating officer of AXA Partners, the life insurance arm of AXA Distributors L.L.C., Farmington, Conn.

Pietrini-Smith previously was COO of AXA Equitable’s information technology group.

Pietrini-Smith has a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H., and a master’s degree in business from Babson College.

- Aetna Inc., Hartford, has hired Mohit Ghose to be vice president of public affairs.

Ghose previously was senior vice president of public affairs at American’s Health Insurance Plans, Washington.

Ghose has a bachelor’s degree from Franklin and Marshall College.

- Nationwide Financial Services Inc., Columbus, Ohio, has hired Michael Spangler to lead the Nationwide Funds Group mutual fund operation.

Spangler has been a managing director at Morgan Stanley Investment Management, a unit of Morgan Stanley Inc., New York.

Spangler has a bachelor’s degree from Elizabethtown College and a master’s degree in business administration from Lehigh University.
