The reasons people buy life insurance policies are numerous and varied. Innovative life insurance carriers recognize that and work to make their policies fit the needs of a changing world. The U.S. division of Sun Life Financial has done that with its Universal ProtectorPlus policy.

A long term care rider means life insurance purchasers, on policies of $250,000 and more, can receive valuable long term care coverage whether they are confined to a nursing home or receiving care at home.

The enhanced version of Sun Universal ProtectorPlus now has the following benefits and options:

  • Reduced premium pricing of 3 percent to 8 percent for non-tobacco issue ages 35-65.
  • No limitations on the Accelerated Death Benefit (access to up to 75 percent of base policy amount in the event of a terminal illness).
  • Optional Long Term Care rider, with benefits up to $20,000 per month for up to 50 months. The rider accelerates the death benefit to provide LTC coverage.
  • Extended Charitable Giving Benefit rider, on policy amounts of $100,000 or more. It provides the insured's designated charity with a gift of 1 percent of the death benefit amount, over and above the policy's death benefit.
