A health insurer has created a unit to manage operations other than its major medical operations.

Humana Inc., Louisville, Ky., is putting its dental insurance and vision insurance operations in the new Humana Specialty Benefits division.

The division also will be responsible for selling life insurance, disability insurance, accident insurance, critical illness insurance, supplemental health insurance, integrated medical-behavioral health services, behavioral health services, employee assistance program and work-life services, and wellness programs, Humana says.

Humana formed the division to hold the operations of the old HumanaDental Insurance Company unit along with operations added through the recent acquisitions of CompBenefits Corp., Atlanta, and KMG America Corp., Minnetonka, Minn., the parent of Kanawha Insurance Company.
