A dental insurer is using an incentive program to encourage plan members to look after their teeth.

Delta Dental of Missouri, St. Louis, a nonprofit dental insurer that provides or administers dental coverage for 1.1 million people, says it has introduced a new benefits rollover feature, the MAXAdvantage benefit option.

The feature permits plan members to save some of the plan dollars not spent on dental care during the current year for use in later years.

To keep the feature from reducing use of benefits for routine exams, teeth cleanings and fluoride treatments, the feature is designed in such a way that expenditures on preventive care no longer are deducted from the maximum benefit amount for the current plan year, Missouri Delta says.
