A Midwestern insurer has hired a new top executive for a key unit.

Dan Bardin will be succeeding Michael Dubes as president of Conseco Insurance Group, according to Conseco Inc., Carmel, Ind.

Dubes is retiring after 2.5 years at Conseco, Conseco says.

Bardin, a member of the board of LIMRA International, Windsor, Conn., previously was chief executive of insurance for the Hong Kong-based Asian operations of Prudential P.L.C., London. Before that, he was a general manager of the Thai operations of American International Group Inc., New York.

Bardin has a bachelor’s degree from California State University.
