A life insurer is trying to make the application process simpler for consumers who are seeking moderate amounts of protection coverage.

AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company, New York, a unit of AXA S.A., Paris, says it now is offering a simplified-issue underwriting process for its Return of Premium Term life insurance on policy face amounts from $100,000 to $249,999.

Instead of filling out long questionnaires and undergoing paramedical exams, applicants for ROP Term Simplified Issue coverage can fill out a short application, go through a 20-minute telephone interview and administer an oral swab, AXA Equitable says.

The underwriting classes available are Simplified Issue Non-Tobacco User and Simplified Issue Tobacco User.

If a policyholder outlives the ROP Term level premium period selected of 20, 25 or 30 years and the policy is still in force, the policyholder will receive a refund of 100% of the eligible cumulative premiums paid, AXA Equitable says.

AXA Equitable is responsible for backing the ROP guarantees and other product guarantees.
