Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. (MassMutual), Springfield, Mass., has kicked off an innovative Breast Cancer Awareness program that will raise an estimated six-figure contribution for local cancer organizations all across the country while also educating women about financial preparedness, especially when it comes to breast cancer and other unexpected life events.
The program, part of a year-long effort by MassMutual to support breast cancer awareness efforts, will make charitable contributions of up to $3,000 to local cancer organizations in the name of each MassMutual agency that conducts a Pearls of Wisdom(R) financial education seminar in its local community in October.
Last year's program raised $110,000 in donations from MassMutual and its agents, who conducted more than 90 Pearls of Wisdom financial education seminars across the country. Sharing the money were cancer research, detection and treatment programs in 25 states, including several local chapters of the American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and a host of other local charities.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to not only raise much-needed money for cancer research and support but also educate women about the steps they can take to financially prepare themselves and their families for unexpected life events such as breast cancer," said Susan W. Sweetser, vice president of Focus Markets, MassMutual. "It's just one of the many ways we support the cause of breast cancer awareness throughout the year."
