Colonial: Women Use Wellness Benefits

Women seem to be more likely to take advantage of the types of wellness benefits that come with cancer insurance policies and critical illness policies.

Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company, Columbia, S.C., is reporting that finding in analysis of the wellness claims it has paid in connection with cancer policies, critical illness policies and other policies sold at the worksite.

About 44% of the claimants are asking for benefits for Pap smear tests, and 29% are asking for mammogram benefits, according to Colonial Life, a unit of Unum, Chattanooga, Tenn.

About 12% of the claims are for tests for colon cancer, and 9.5% are for tests for prostate cancer.
