A life insurer has donated $265,000 to 25 charities and philanthropic projects in connection with a program that encourages sales representatives to get involved with their communities.

Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, Milwaukee, made 24 $10,000 contributions on behalf of "outstanding volunteers" and one $25,000 contribution on behalf of a "most exceptional volunteer," the company says.

About 9,000 reps in the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network distribution system participated in the community service award program, Northwestern says.
