The U.S. Treasury Department has given a new official responsibility for overseeing the Terrorism Risk Insurance Program.

The department has appointed Jeremiah Norton to succeed David Nason as deputy assistant secretary for financial institutions policy.

Nason recently moved up to become assistant secretary for financial institutions.

Norton began serving as deputy assistant secretary in June and also is in charge of the Office of Financial Institutions Policy, which develops Treasury Department policies on legislative and regulatory issues affecting financial institutions.

Norton previously served on the staff of Rep. Edward Royce, R-Calif., a member of the House Financial Services Committee, where he worked on insurance issues and other financial services issues.

Norton has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Duke University and a law degree from Georgetown University.
