CIGNA Corp. is contributing $1 million toward the cost of building a Martin Luther King Jr. memorial in Washington.

Sponsoring the memorial is a fitting way to pay tribute to the slain civil rights leader, says H. Edward Hanway, chairman of CIGNA, Philadelphia.

The memorial is to be constructed on the National Mall between the Jefferson Memorial and Lincoln Memorial and adjacent to the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial. It is scheduled to be completed in 2008.
