A foundation affiliated with New York Life Insurance Company has announced a major effort to support African-American studies.

The New York Life Foundation, New York, is giving $10 million to establish the New York Life Endowment for Emerging African-American Issues at the Colin Powell Center for Policy Studies, an arm of the City College of New York.

The endowment will fund 16 undergraduate scholarships, 5 graduate scholarships and 8 summer internships each year, and it also will pay to bring at least one leader with an interest in African-American issues to campus each year, according to the foundation.

In addition, the endowment will pay to send City College students to outside conferences and meetings with professional policymakers.
