An actuarial firm is scooping up a retirement and benefits consulting firm.

Milliman Inc., Seattle, has agreed to acquire Lawrence Johnson & Associates, Oakland, Calif., for a price that was not disclosed.

Milliman hopes to complete the deal by Sept. 1.

Lawrence Johnson, the founder of LJA, and other LJA managers will remain in place, but the firm will operate under the name Milliman Inc., Milliman says.

LJA opened in 1982. Clients include companies in the retail, manufacturing professional services, municipal government and technology sectors, Milliman says.
