Clark Benson Inc.’s estate planning unit has bought a minority stake in the insurance and broker-dealer businesses of the ValMark Group Inc.
Under the agreement, Clark Consulting Inc., Barrington, Ill., will pay $2.5 million, $1.5 million of it in cash and the remaining $1 million in Clark common stock, for a 10% membership interest in ValMark, Akron, Ohio. The acquisition will not include ValMark’s renewal income.
Clark says it entered the agreement to provide wider wealth transfer and wealth management services to clients. The venture allows Clark Benson to start acquiring and affiliating with other independent financial planning, wealth transfer and employee benefits firms in the high-net-worth market.
The ValMark Group includes ValMark Securities Inc., ValMark Insurance Agency LLC, Executive Insurance Agency Inc., ValMark Investments LLC and ValMark Advisers Inc.
