Sun Life Financial U.S. has hired Michele Van Leer to be vice president of its individual division.
Van Leer will succeed Claude Accum, the vice president who now is general manager of the division, according to Sun Life Financial U.S., Wellesley Hills, Mass., a unit of Sun Life Financial Inc., Toronto.
Accum will move to the Retirement Services Inc. unit at the U.S. operation in the fall, and Van Leer will become general manager of the individual division at that time, Sun Life says.
Van Leer previously was an executive vice president in the long term care insurance business at John Hancock Life Insurance Company, Boston, which is now a unit of Manulife Financial Corp., Toronto.
Van Leer has a bachelor’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries, and she holds the Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant professional designations.
