Aug. 12, 2004 — Stock picker Alex Muromcew, who helped manage two Loomis Sayles mutual funds that invest overseas, has joined TIAA-CREF.

Muromcew is handling investments in the Asia-Pacific region for TIAA-CREF’s institutional and retail mutual funds, and is working in its San Francisco office, a spokesman for the New York-based financial services company said.

John Tribolet and Eswar Menon, who had run Loomis Sayles Intl Equity/A (LIERX) and Loomis Sayles Worldwide (LSWWX) with Muromcew, continue to oversee the funds.

The three money managers took over the two funds after joining Loomis Sayles from Nicholas Applegate in mid-1999. International Equity is a retail fund; Worldwide is an institutional offering.

The International Equity Fund was down 5% this year through July, versus a gain of 0.4% for the average international equity fund. For the five years ended last month, the fund returned 0.8%, on average, versus a loss of 0.3% by its peers.

Loomis Sayles International Equity is ranked 2 Stars by Standard & Poor’s.
