GREENWICH, Conn. (HedgeWorld.com)–FrontPoint Partners, LLC announced that it has added both Japan and Asia Pacific long/short equity teams, which will operate under the leadership of two new partners, Giampaolo Guarnieri and James Soutar.

Messrs. Guarnieri and Soutar will become FrontPoint partners July 10. Mr. Guarnieri formerly was a senior portfolio manager at Sofaer Global Research Ltd., Hong Kong. From 1999 to 2002 he served as founder and principal of a Hong Kong-based investment company, Phoenix Research, where Mr. Soutar was a fund manager, before merging that firm into the Sofaer group. Mr. Guarnieri will work from New York in his new position with FrontPoint and lead the Japan team based both there and in Tokyo. Mr. Soutar will oversee the FrontPoint Asia team based in Hong Kong.

“Joining FrontPoint Partners allows us to fulfill a number of our long-term business and personal goals,” said Mr. Guarnieri in a statement. “The breadth of FrontPoint’s investment management platform will enable us to significantly enhance our primary research capabilities in order to maintain a sustainable competitive edge across Asian markets.”

FrontPoint Partners was founded in November 2000 by Philip Duff, Gil Caffray and Paul Ghaffari. Messrs. Duff and Caffray are veterans of Tiger Management; Mr. Ghaffari is a Soros Fund Management alum. FrontPoint is registered as an investment adviser with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

In the statement, Mr. Ghaffari, FrontPoint’s chief operating officer, said the addition of the two new teams follows from a growing demand from investors for Asian-based strategies.
