NEW YORK (HedgeWorld.com)–Refco Alternative Investments LLC chose Vienna Portfolio Group AG (Vienna, Austria) to distribute its SPhinX managed futures index fund in Europe.

The Refco SPhinX portfolio, which comprises 14 managers whose strategies represent a cross-section of the managed futures universe, is available in both euro and dollar share classes. The fund is domiciled in the Caymans with a minimum investment of EUR100,000 (about US$122,000).

Refco chose Vienna because “they have proven over the last couple of years, in their relationships with institutions and private banks, that they are expert in the sale of quality alternative investment products,” said Thomas Hackle, Refco executive vice president responsible for managed futures.

The Refco SPhinX portfolio replicates the S&P managed futures index, which returned 8.9% last year.

Assets under management in various funds linked to the S&P managed futures index total close to US$400 million, Mr. Hackle said on March 3. That’s up from approximately US$285 million in mid-February.
