NEW YORK (HedgeWorld.com)–Mayer Capital Advisors LLC, a recently formed fund of funds firm, hired Matthew Hoffman as its chief investment officer.

Mr. Hoffman previously was a vice president in the hedge fund group for Credit Suisse Asset Management, where his duties have been absorbed by others, according to a CSAM spokeswoman. One of his roles there was serving on the five-person hedge fund investment committee, which is headed by Jim Vos, a managing director and co-head of CSAM’s fund of funds group, the spokeswoman said.

At Mayer Capital, Mr. Hoffman will manage the fund of funds portfolios with a focus on emerging hedge fund managers. He said in a statement that he believes the opportunities for above-average performance among emerging managers are much greater than for those of the industry as a whole.

Part of Mayer Capital’s reasoning for targeting emerging managers is that the information flow on those funds is less efficient, which creates greater potential for adding value in choosing funds .
