Oct. 21, 2003 — Former John Hancock mutual fund manager Paul Berlinguet has joined Columbia Management Advisors Inc., where he has replaced portfolio manager Robert Armknecht, who retired.

Columbia said Berlinguet, a growth-oriented investor, succeeded Armknecht on the Columbia Growth Fund/A (CGWAX) and on the Columbia Large Cap Growth Fund (LEGAX), which was formerly called the Liberty Equity Growth Fund. Alexander Macmillan continues as the co-manager of both funds. Berlinguet and Macmillan also head Columbia’s Large Cap Growth team.

Berlinguet had helped run J Hancock Large Cap Equity Fund/A (TAGRX) and J Hancock Large Cap Growth Fund/A (JHNGX). Hancock said those funds continue to be piloted by co-managers Robert Uek and Robert Junkin, who had overseen the portfolios with Berlinguet.
