Seeks growing stocks of companies with market caps of up to $600 million. Willing to buy an unprofitable company if he thinks it will start producing earnings soon. Prefers companies with low debt.

Key Stock Selection Criteria

*Earnings and sales growth of at least 15% per year.

*Stock price equal to or slightly less than company’s growth rate.

*Seasoned management team with a successful track record elsewhere.

Key Sell Criteria

*Financial fundamentals weaken.

*Trims if position in portfolio exceeds 4% of fund’s assets.

*Company’s market cap rises to $1 billion.

Biographical Notes

Brian Gerber is a principal, partner and portfolio manager with John McStay Investment Counsel, his employer since November 1991. He was previously a senior analyst and a portfolio manager with USAA Investment Management Co. He holds a BBA in finance from the University of Texas at Austin, and an MBA from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He is a chartered financial analyst.
