LONDON (HedgeWorld.com)–Platinum Capital Management Ltd. hired Eric L. Munson as president of a new U.S. division that initially will be focused on marketing and research.

The New York-based operation, Platinum Capital Management LLC, will concentrate on marketing Platinum’s offerings to institutional investors, and on developing new products, said Craig Reeves, managing director. Eventually, it’s possible that Mr. Munson’s group could manage money in-house, as well, he said.

Most recently, Mr. Munson was a founder of Elmwood Capital, and previously was a managing director for Wentworth Hauser and Violich, San Francisco, according to Platinum.

The first product to result from the U.S. unit will be the Platinum All-Weather Fund, a U.S. equity market neutral fund to be launched next month, Mr. Reeves said. A Cayman Islands-domiciled fund, it will be comprised of U.S. managers, and will carry a minimum of US$100,000 or 100,000 euro. Additional information on the fund will become available in coming weeks, he said.

In September, Platinum launched the Platinum Washington Fund Ltd., an offshore long/short U.S. equity fund. The firm has US$200 million under management, Mr. Reeves said.
