Nov. 22, 2002 — Barclays Global Investors (BGI) said it will launch the iShares MSCI South Africa Index fund, as part of its international ETF product offerings.

Barclays noted that institutional investors have expressed their need for an iShare that provides exposure to South Africa, a market buoyed by the rise in shares of gold mining companies this year.

A registration statement relating to the new iShares South Africa Index fund has been filed with the SEC but has not yet become effective.

Barclays currently has 33 international/global ETFs, including five emerging market ETFs, available to U.S. investors.
