NEW YORK (HedgeWorld.com)–Nomura Securities International has created a new equity strategies group, an eight-member team focusing on distressed investments.

The Nomura Equity Strategies group, headed by Anthony Venditti, will provide institutional investors and hedge funds with trading and research services. The New York-based team’s area of coverage is expected to range from distressed debt and high yield to capital-structure arbitrage and restructurings.

The most recent hire for the new group came this week, when Nomura brought onboard Brad Bousquet as a research analyst. Mr. Bousquet was formerly a distressed-debt analyst with WL Ross & Co and had worked previously as an associate analyst at Greenwich High Yield LLC.

Meanwhile, the Japanese brokerage giant is also expanding its debt coverage in Europe. The firm recently hired James Witter as a debt originator and client relationship manager for the Nomura UK/Netherlands Debt Capital Markets team. Before joining Nomura, Mr. Witter had served for two years as a managing director at Merrill Lynch International after having spent 15 years as a senior manager on the bond side at the brokerage Dresdner Kleinwort Benson.
