NU Online News Service, Aug. 9, 1:05 p.m. – Nationwide Financial Services Inc., Columbus, Ohio, says it plans to hire Gary McMahan to be president of Provident Mutual Life Insurance Company, Berwyn, Pa., once it completes its proposed acquisition of the life insurer.

McMahan would succeed Robert Kloss, Provident Mutual’s current chairman. Nationwide, which hopes to complete the Provident Mutual deal by Oct. 1, says it will change the name of Provident Mutual to Nationwide Provident.

McMahan spent decades running a Virginia Beach, Va., life insurance agency that represented Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, Springfield, Mass. He later served as a senior vice president in charge of distribution at MassMutual’s home office and ran a life insurance sales consulting firm.

McMahan has a bachelor’s degree from Barton College. He holds the Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant designations.
