NU Online News Service, Jan. 16, 11:45 a.m. – The Colorado Senate is considering a new bill, S.B. 78, that would prohibit life and disability insurers from using genetic information in underwriting insurance for individuals.

The bill, sponsored by Sen. Bob Hagedorn, D-Aurora, would set the minimum penalty for misuse of genetic information by an insurer at $10,000 per day.

The bill has been referred to the state Senate Judiciary Committee for discussion.
