LIMRA cancels Chicago conferences

NU Online News Service, Sept. 11, 12:25 p.m. — LIMRA International, Windsor, Conn., a major life insurance research group, has canceled the group insurance and other conferences it has scheduled for this week in Chicago due to today’s terrorist attacks.

Here is the text of the electronic mail that Richard Wecker, president of LIMRA, sent conference attendees.

SUBJECT: LIMRA Conferences

TO: All attendees

Due to the national emergency prompted by the attacks on the World Trade Center and other locations, LIMRA International is canceling the conferences scheduled to begin tomorrow in Chicago. Amid the uncertainty and disruption of the national transportation system, the safety of our members and other conference participants is paramount.

At this time, we have no further information on rescheduling the events. We will also be contacting representatives of each member company by telephone to ensure that attendees are notified.

We thank you all for your support of these conferences and deeply regret having to cancel. For any participants who have already traveled to Chicago, LIMRA support staff at the Hyatt hotel is available to assist in any way. With the rest of the nation, our thoughts and concerns are with the individuals and families directly affected by these tragic events.
