Wealthy people on TV or in films are often portrayed as arrogant, dishonest or murderous. They appear to live in a world of yachts, private jets and compounds patrolled by bodyguards.
This can make for entertaining viewing but is far from the truth. Tom Stanley introduced us to “The Millionaire Next Door,” and they are a bigger cohort among the people you consider peers than you might imagine. It has been said that 1 of 14 people in the United States are millionaires in terms of net worth.
Even some advisors think that seriously wealthy people are scary. They might not be, but consider these conversations from another perspective. If you were presenting to an institution in a competitive situation for a large amount of business, you would present with a certain level of professionalism. Bring that same professionalism to these encounters.
